Oh, she wanted to tell him what to do, and it had nothing whatsoever to do with rock cleaning. She did love it, she wasn’t lying or even exaggerating, but when the man had walked in the room in those tight black jeans and t-shirt, her mouth had started watering.
The black t-shirt emphasized his muscular arms and it fit him like skin. The black jeans cupped him in all the right places. This was ridiculous, she could barely walk after their amorous activities last night, and here she was again lusting after him.
She had laid some of their collection out on the work bench, but she dragged her eyes off Steve, by looking in the pack where the others were. There were already plenty to start with laid out, but she had to do something to keep her from jumping the man, or even drooling. Drooling was not pretty. And she’d been the one to call a halt to the carnal side of their association, not relationship, association only.
With her head down pretending to look intently into the bag she said, “Start with the ones on the bench, run them under water in the sink and you can use a soft brush on them to start. Knock the loose dirt off. Let’s run through all the ones we collected, doing that to start. When you’ve got them as clean as possible set them on the bench and I’ll look at them to determine the next step.”
“Your wish is my command.”
And did he have to say things like that in his deep rumbling voice. Dammit anyway, why didn’t he have a high squeaky voice and skinny arms. Couldn’t she catch a break, ever. His voice just rumbled through her and made every nerve stand on end, well she was not giving in to it. They had rocks to clean and she was going to chain her mind to that task come hell or high water.
She set more rocks on the workbench and glanced over to see him working on the first one. He was gently washing it and rubbing the dirt away with his fingers. And she wanted those wet gentle fingers on her. No, no, no, should she turn on music, should she start a conversation, should she dunk her head in the cold water, should she run away. She had to get past this obsession and the sooner the better.
“Here’s the first one.” He laid the rock with its crystals on the workbench.
“Great.” Finally, she had something to keep her busy. She set the bag down with the rest of their specimens and went over to her work bench. After that, she did get lost in the work.
“All done, how about I get us some dinner.” She startled when he spoke, she’d been immersed in the rocks and had tuned everything else out.
“That would be great, I’ll have the large burrito platter, ground beef with Colorado sauce and melted cheese. And a strawberry margarita. There’s a menu in the drawer under the toaster oven.
